„Rollercoaster“ began in 2008 as part of the „At Table“ series. An abstracted portrait of Tina Oelker’s mother served as the starting point. In 2017 she completely removed the abstract face. In 2019 Tina integrated the work into the „25 Colours Stockholm“ program and completed it. Only then did it receive the title „Rollercoaster“. This development over more than a decade shows her willingness to reinterpret earlier works.

Ein abstrahiertes Porträt von Tina Oelkers Mutter diente als Ausgangspunkt. 2017 entfernte sie das abstrakte Gesicht vollständig. 2019 integrierte Tina das Werk in das „25 Farben Stockholm“-Programm und vollendete es. Erst dann erhielt es den Titel „Rollercoaster“. Diese Entwicklung über mehr als ein Jahrzehnt zeigt ihre Bereitschaft, frühere Arbeiten neu zu interpretieren.

Description

Developed between 2006 and 2020, At The Table N° 6 originated as part of a diptych before gradually becoming an independent work. Over time, the painting found its place within 25 Colours Stockholm, while preserving the memory of its earlier form beneath successive layers of colour. Its original title remains unchanged, linking different moments of my practice across time.

Description

Created between 2006 and 2021, this painting emerged through fifteen years of continuous development. Inspired by impressions from a journey through Catalonia, the work gradually transformed from figurative beginnings into an abstract composition shaped by light, colour and memory. Earlier stages remain embedded beneath the surface, while the vibrant orange palette recalls the atmosphere of the Mediterranean. The painting reflects my ongoing interest in transformation as an essential part of the painterly process.

Description

Originally created in 2007 as Sand, this painting found a new direction when I returned to it in 2019. Through successive layers of colour, the work gradually transformed while preserving traces of its earlier state beneath the surface. Awning Head embodies my interest in painting as an open process, where memory, time and change become part of the image itself.

Description

The At the Table series began in 2009, inspired by the traces left behind after a shared meal in my studio. Since then, the series has evolved from figurative narratives into increasingly abstract paintings shaped by memory and transformation. In At the Table No. 5, earlier imagery remains visible beneath later layers of oil paint, allowing fragments of the original narrative to emerge and disappear as the painting changes with light and perception.

Description

This painting began with an analogue photograph I took while working in gastronomy during my years as an art student. Developed over many years, the work gradually transformed from an observed place into an autonomous painting. The atmosphere of the former sailors‘ pub remains visible beneath the layers of colour, preserving traces of its origin. Within the Squares series, the painting reveals how earlier states remain present through the process of transformation.

Description

Painted in 2016, Fragility and Green Between later became part of the 25.2 series as one half of 25 Colours Stockholm. The work was consciously developed with only a small range of colours, allowing green to shape both its atmosphere and structure. Its horizontal format and defined graphic elements embody a regained sense of inner stability, while green opens a space for inner expansion rather than symbolising hope.

Description

Zu Tisch N° 12 originates from my Zu Tisch series, in which I worked with canvases that had been marked during annual game dinners, allowing these traces to become part of the painting itself. After leaving Hafentor 7, I returned to this work and transformed the existing image through broad gestures and layers of muted white oil paint. The earlier marks remain present beneath the surface, creating a connection between the original experience and the later transformation of the painting.

Description

Created in 2016 during a phase of inner immersion, this work is one of the first mid-sized paintings I created after reworking a series of smaller pieces. Built through layers of oil paint in earthy tones, the painting develops a quiet intensity and a sustained presence. Its restrained composition allows the material qualities of colour and surface to remain at the centre.

Descriotion

Created in 2011 at Hafentor 7, this work began as a portrait of Rosa, mother of my colleague Federico Schiaffino from Portofino. At a later stage, I placed a protective hand over the image, keeping the intimacy of the portrait while transforming the surface of the painting. The work brings together two different moments of its creation on one canvas and became part of 25 Colours Stockholm.
