    Description

    I created Fem Färger as a group of five paintings, each measuring 70 × 60 cm. Their titles are inspired by the hand-painted floating frames, which I consider an integral part of every work. Some of the paintings evolved over a long period of time, while others found their final form through a more reduced visual language. Together, they reflect different ways of arriving at a painting.

    Description

In Gugu No. 1, the handwritten note „ain’t no clouds!“ remains subtly embedded in the surface, like a quiet trace of the painting’s own history.

    Heavy Runner evolved over many years. First painted in 2003 for the exhibition b-present, I revisited the work several times before it found its present form as part of a new phase in my practice. Some paintings need time. Heavy Runner has remained in my studio ever since and is featured in my book Of Hares and Gods.

    This painting was created in 2003 as Hand in the b-present series and was completely reworked in 2019. The deep sides and compact format make it an object painting. The title is generously sketched on the side. After living with the painting for many years, I returned to it once more in 2026, making a final addition to its present form. I think it is finished now. The work was published in my book Of Hares and Gods in an earlier version.

    This painting was created in 2023 as part of a series exploring a reduced visual language on a warm brown ground. The work reconnects with ideas first explored in my abstract portraits Momentum and Speculum (2005), continuing a recurring thread within my practice. It belongs to a group of paintings shaped by simplicity, balance and the expressive power of restraint.
